What TRSA are looking for?

The coaches from Target Rifle South Australia (TRSA) and Australian International Shooting Limited (AISL) will be in attendance on the day.  They will be looking out for individuals who show enthusiasm, commitment, and maturity as well as displaying a drive to succeed.

While shooting results from the day are important, coaches will be assisting participants, and will be also looking for those who demonstrate an ability to learn and apply the techniques they are taught.

Please note that previous experience in this sport is not a requirement.

Follow-up to participants Successful applicants will be contacted by Tuesday 16th September, and invited to an Introduction to Rifle Shooting Course on Saturday 20th September, from 10am to 3pm.  This course will teach you basic shooting skills, cover firearms safety and determine the course of the initial training program.

What training commitments are required?

Training for the Targeting Talent Program will initially be three sessions a week.

Northern Suburbs Participants
  • Tuesday Evenings (Wingfield Range)
  • Friday Nights from 7.30pm (Wingfield Range).
  • Saturdays from 9.30am to 12pm (Wingfield Range).
Southern Suburbs Participants
  • Wednesday Evenings (Reynella Range)
  • Friday Nights from 7.30pm (Reynella Range)
  • Saturdays from 9.30am to 12pm (Wingfield Range).

Equipment that will be needed

Initially, it will be important to purchase a shooting glove to protect your hand.  These are available in the equipment shop for around $60-$80. You will also need to purchase air pellets, which are around $9 - $12 for a tin of 500 pellets.  Targets will be available at the range.

You will be able to borrow good quality rifles, and these will be available to you until you are ready to purchase your own rifle.

Firearms Licence

If you plan to purchase your own rifle immediately, you will need a firearms licence.  However, if you decide to use the rifles provided in the Targeting Talent Program, it is not necessary to get a firearms licence straight away.

As part of your participation in the Targeting Talent Program, you will receive instruction on safety and other important elements of rifle shooting.  You will then be able to do the necessary test through Target Rifle South Australia for your firearms licence.

Membership You will need to become a financial member of one of the Clubs that are associated with Target Rifle South Australia, (TRSA).  TRSA is a member of Target Rifle Australia (TRA), which is a member of Australian International Shooting Limited (AISL).  It is through Australian International Shooting Limited that high performance shooting is managed.
Competitions

It is expected that Targeting Talent participants will initially enter local competitions.  Other competitions will be included on the yearly schedule at an appropriate time.
