About Target Shooting
Target Rifle South Australia is the State Sporting Organisation for the Olympic disciplines of .177 Air Rifle and .22 Smallbore target shooting. Our junior clubs are designed to introduce young people aged 10-18, to our sport in a fun and safe environment.
Our junior clubs are run by accredited coaches and we are committed to providing a Child Safe Policy.
All our junior club volunteers are required to have working with children checks by law.
Our junior clubs introduce young people to our sport through the 10 Metre Air Rifle event. Juniors start off shooting over a rest, to hone their sighting and triggering skills, before moving on to free standing.
All equipment is initially provided by the clubs, including rifles, so there is no pressure to buy expensive gear while you are just starting out. The rifles used are .177 target air rifles, powered by a compressed air cylinder.
Teaching safe and responsible use of firearms is an important part of our clubs, and so is having fun!
We hold regular fun shoots and competitions to encourage good sportsmanship, discipline, confidence and self esteem. Personal achievements are recognised and we encourage our juniors to set goals and make positive steps towards achieving them.
We hope you’ll come and join us at the Range for a shoot soon!
Whether you just want to come out and have fun or you want to be an Olympic Champion, our Junior Clubs can help to lay the foundations for the rest of your shooting career.
Regular open training is also held on Saturday mornings with our state level coaches for those wanting to be more competitive or who just want to get in some extra practice.
National level competitions are often held at our Wingfield range. A great opportunity for our junior shooters to experience competitions and mingle with our High Performance athletes.
Graduates of our junior clubs have represented Australia at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janiero.
We have 2 Junior Clubs in Adelaide – one on the northern side of Adelaide at our State Range at Wingfield that meets on Thursday nights, and the other in the southern suburbs at our Reynella Club and meets on Wednesday nights.
